And Why Approaching It Like a First Date Will Help

Imagine you’re on a first date and your date keeps talking about himself/herself. Are you going out on a second date? No.

So what does this have to do with your job posting on DSP Ohio?

Both have the same problem. Unfortunately, in this case, the posting on DSP Ohio is the bad date that only talks about himself. Does your job posting lead with text focused on your organization? Or does it start with what interests potential applicants? You don’t have much time to make a first impression online.

Here’s what to watch out for and an overview of how to improve your post.

First, it’s easy to have the mindset when your organization has job openings, that you’re in the position of power. People want jobs and you’re selecting who to hire. Therefore, you’re in control, right?

But, in this case, the applicants are in the position of power. With far more Direct Support Professional job openings than applicants, the applicants have the power. They can select the opportunity they feel is best for them. So given the situation, you need to do your best to attract applicants.

How do you do that? Let’s think back to the dating analogy. If you talk about what interests the person you want to attract, they’ll want to get to know you better.

That’s why you shouldn’t lead with a general description of your organization. Potential applicants want to know specifics beyond the basic job description and benefits. Plus, they have questions and concerns.

How do you find out what they want to know? Ask some of your newer hires about questions and concerns they had at the start of the hiring process. Then update your posting based on their feedback.

If you do that, you’ll have more opportunities to meet the people your organization needs.

In our next post, we’ll share ideas for each section of your DSP Ohio job posting to attract more applicants.
